Athena

An online, user-friendly OMOP concept lookup tool provided by OHDSI.

Caboodle

One of the Epic data ‘warehouses’ (along with Clarity) allowing extraction of data. Easier to use than Clarity, difficult to get access except for data professionals.

CDM

Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) is an open community data standard, designed to standardize the structure and content of observational data.

Clarity

One of the Epic data ‘warehouses’ (along with Caboodle) allowing extraction of data. More complicated to use than Caboodle only likely to be used by data professionals.

CRIU

Clinical and Research Informatics Unit in UCLH, a team of clinicians, researchers, software developers, business intelligence analysts and data scientists working together to develop a robust environment and infrastructure for the analysis of clinical data.

EHR(S)

Electronic Health Record (System) - generic term for digital collection of health data.

EMAP

Experimental Medical Applications Platform, developed in UCLH. A a non-operational “mirror” of a subset of UCLH data (historical and live) to support research.

Epic

The software used to collect & store health data in UCLH, introduced April 2019.

ETL

Extract Transform Load. The process of getting data into a Common Data Model. OHDSI provide tools for doing this.

FHIR

Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources, the global industry standard for passing healthcare data between systems. It is free, open, and designed to be quick to learn and implement. It is developed by HL7, the global authority on standards for interoperability of health technology with members in over 55 countries.

HL7

The global authority on standards for interoperability of health technology responsible for FHIR and other standards.

ICD-11

International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. Maintained by WHO. v11 in effect from January 2022.

ICD03

International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, maintained by WHO, used principally in tumour or cancer registries for coding the site (topography) and the histology (morphology) of neoplasms.

LOINC

Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes, a database and universal standard for identifying medical laboratory observations.

OHDSI

Pronounced Odyssey. Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics program is a multi-stakeholder, interdisciplinary collaborative to bring out the value of health data through large-scale analytics. All our solutions are open-source. Maintains the OMOP Common Data Model.

OMOP

Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) is an open community data standard, designed to standardize the structure and content of observational data and to enable efficient analyses. UCLH moving to using OMOP in 2022.

R Markdown

A document format that allows you to combine text and R code and outputs to create reproducible documents, presentations, web pages etc. Powerful and relatively easy to get started.

shiny

An R package that makes it easy to build interactive web apps straight from R. You can host standalone apps on a webpage or embed them in R Markdown documents or build dashboards.

SlicerDicer

SlicerDicer is an Epic tool, enabling consultants to quickly explore large quantities of anonymised data to identify trends over time or test hunches and hypotheses.

SNOMED CT

SNOMED CT gives clinical IT systems a single shared language, which makes exchanging information between systems easier, safer and more accurate. It contains all the clinical terms needed for the whole NHS, from procedures and symptoms through to clinical measurements, diagnoses and medications. All NHS healthcare providers in England must now use SNOMED CT for capturing clinical terms within electronic patient record systems.
